The Papua New Guinea Department of Education has announced the official key dates for National School Examinations and holidays for the 2025 Academic Year.
The Education Department Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra announced on Tuesday 14th December 2024 announced the official dates to the public media for 2025 academic year.
Beginning of Classes
January
- 20th-24TH January 2025-Resumption of duties for Teachers.
- 27TH January 2025- Beginning of classes.
National Examinations
June
- 5th June-Lower Secondary School Certificate Written Examination (Grade 10)
August
- 4TH August-Upper Secondary School Certificate-Written Examination (Grade 12)
September
- 1st-15 September-Grade 12 STEM Examinations
October
- 6th-10th October- Lower Secondary School Certificate Examinations-(Grade 10)
- 13th-17th October-Upper Secondary School Certificate Examinations-(Grade 12)
- 20th-23rd October-Certificate of Basic Education Examinations (Grade 8)
Public Holidays
- Wednesday 1st January-New Year
- February 26th-National Remembrance Day of Late Former Prime Minister, Great Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.
- April 18th-Good Friday
- April 19th– Easter Saturday
- April 20th– Easter Sunday
- April 21st-Easter Monday
- June 17th-King’s Birth Day
- July 23rd -National Remembrance Day
- August 26th– National Repentance Day.
- September 16th -Independence Day
- December 25th– Christmas Day
- December 26th– Boxing Day

Term 1- Holidays , Monday, April 7th to – Friday April 11th 2025 (1 Week)
Term 2-Holidays, Monday , June 23rd-27th (1 Week)
Term 3-Holidays, Monday, September 8th-19th September (2 Weeks)
Term 4-Holidays, Monday, December 8, 2025 -January 23rd 2026 (6 Weeks)
The Secretary advised all Provincial Education Advisors, school principals and institutions to take heed of these important dates and use them in their planning for this 2025 academic year. The printed version of the Education Calendar will be distributed nation wide to schools.
