Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA). It’s Koiari Park Campus, is located close to the city, about 45 minutes drive from the city and Port Moresby Jackson’s International Airport.
Getting to Pacific Adventist University (PAU) by road.
If are visitor in the city and wants to get Pacific Adventist University by road, either by private vehicle or public bus.
By private vehicle.
From the airport or city, get into the Hubbert Murray Highway. It’s the one of the main highways that run from Port Moresby Downtown (CBD) all the way to 17 Mile and up to the Sogeri mountains. From city, drive past Gordons Market, Erima and all the way up 17 mile and then exit at the PAU entrance. The PAU campus is just opposite Adventure Park.
By Public Motor Vehicle (PMVs).
The PMV stop to go to Pacific Adventist University is at Gordons Market area. The PMVs operators will be calling out for Passengers so get on a PMV that is for 17 Mile or Sogeri. For visitors, the Gordons PMV Stop is always crowded with people and PMV vehicles. So, it is highly recommended that you go with a local relative, friend who can assist get onto the PMVs and also translate if you are foreigner.
Unfortunately, most foreign nationals living and working in Port Moresby does no use the Public PMV system in the city for obvious reasons. (Read post: Public bus transport system in Port Moresby.)
Also, note the distance from the highway into the campus is about half a kilometer walk. In the Port Moresby, hot and humid climate it can be uncomfortable for visitors. To return, you have to walk back to the main highway to get on PMVs. Alternative is to wait for Taxi to come into the campus but again, it’s not regular. Unless someone else is coming into the campus by taxi. Otherwise, it’s inconvenience waiting for one to get to the highway.
By Taxi
The most convenient way to get to Pacific Adventist University campus is by Public Taxi. However, it’s good to get to Waigani, Gordons, Erima or Jacksons International Airport areas and then get on any Taxi. The fare is K50.00 one way currently from these areas. If you are getting on from Down Town (CBD) or Gerehu, Badili, Manu, Boroko or areas further, then it would be double the fare or more. Also highly recommended to go with a friend or relative.
Taxis don’t charge individual passengers like in other cities. Only in PMVs charge is individual.
Pacific Adventist University Campus
The campus is well maintained and visits to the campus can be relaxing space for visitors from the city. PAU Campus does security checks for all visitors but in some cases, individuals and small family size visitors are allowed during the working days and Sundays. Saturday is Worship Day for the campus community of staff and students so visitors are expected join in worship services at the campus only and not for other purposes.

BSP Bank ATM
There is one ATM at the Dinning Hall and Canteen area. If you need to get cash, then you can use that.
Water Coolers
Water coolers are available at the Main Library building, and in all Academic Faculty buildings. So, if you are in the campus and thirsty you can find the water cooler closer to you and drink. If you want other bottled water, soft drinks or snacks then you can go the Canteen close the Dinning Hall and buy there.
Campus Canteen
The campus canteen sells all basic essentials. Soft drinks, biscuits, phone top up cards, boiled eggs, breads and etc. It also has sells local frozen fresh fish.
If you are visiting the campus during the middle of the semesters, you can check the back of the canteen for home cooked food items. Mothers in the community usually sell cooked local food, cakes, doughnuts and etc.
If you are at the PAU Clinic at the School of Health Sciences and School of Business complex building, you can check the SOBWAY canteen in the School of Business complex building. Access is right opposite the SOB Carpark. There, they sell cooked food, juices and bottled water.
PAU Clinic
The PAU Clinic is located at the School Of Health Sciences close the School of Business Building and the main Church.
The clinic services the campus community and the people nearby. If you are in campus and need medical assistance or have an emergency, you can get assistance from the clinic.
PAU Main Church.
The main church building is located right in the center of the campus, just beside the lake. Visitors are welcome to join the PAU Campus community during Saturday (Sabbath Services) for worship. During the Sabbath days, lot of visitors from the city go there for worship.
Most of the spiritual programs and Graduation services are conducted in this church.
What is Prohibited on PAU Campus
The campus maintains it’s Christian and health standards. As such, the following are prohibited on campus during visits
- Betel Nut and chewing of it
- Drugs or Alcohol
- Littering
