Waigani Primary and Elementary School are located next to each other inside the University of Papua New Guinea Staff Residence area at the University of Papua New Guinea Waigani Main Campus.
It is one of the largest Primary School in the city, with each Grade level have up to 6 classes (example, Grade 7A, 7B,7C,7D,7F) . The Waigani Primary School enrollments start at Grade 3 up to Grade 8, while the Waigani Elementary School enrolls Pre-School to Grade 2. This makes is so convenient for parents to start their kids education from Pre-School to Primary in the same school environment.
Road access to Waigani Primary School
Access to Waigani Primary school by road is through two roads. Main road access is through the University of Papua New Guinea Waigani Campus main entrance road and then turn right towards the Staff Residence compound. Then on the second security checkpoint, turn left and head straight down to the school gate.
The road access is through the University of Papua New Guinea, Waigani Campus entrance next to the Mary Queen Of The Pacific Catholic Church, next to Pacific, at Pelican Street, Gannet Road, North Waigani. Drive or walk across the field and then into the UPNG Staff Residence and navigate your way around those streets till you reach the school. Just note, that this second access road is only open at week days and on certain times, at the discretion of UPNG Administration and not open all the time, like the main UPNG entrance road.
School facilities at Waigani Primary School
The school facilities inside the school are quite in decent condition than other Public Primary Schools. The Classrooms are standard ones you can find in most schools in the city, as they are constructed by Department of Education approved designs. The schools has very wide empty spaced to cater for students recreation and playground. The grounds are not paved or tiled though, and due the hot and dry climate in Port Moresby, the school ground looks dry and not much greenery. This is same condition with many public primary schools in the city. There are number of rain trees and small trees that provides much needed shade from the hot sun.
The school has a nice fence and since’s it’s within the UPNG Main campus, the Uniforce, the security department of the University patrols the school in the night and day. So in terms of security, Waigani Primary and Waigani Elementary are safe.
Feeder Schools for Waigani Primary School
Waigani Primary School is feeder Primary School for Charles Charles Lwanga Secondary School which is one of the top Secondary performing schools in PNG in terms of DHERST Grade 12 selection for tertiary education. And Gerehu Secondary School.
Waigani Primary School is one of the top performing schools in the city in Grade 8 National Examinations as well.
Final note:
For parents living at Nort Waigania, Ensisi and Rainbow, Waigain Primary School is a good option to consider for the kids. For parents living far, transport in the morning can be a problem as schools is not close to the bus stop for kids and also parents drop at the school.
