
The local currency of Papua New Guinea is called Kina and Toea and it’s trade symbol (K) or on the currency markets is PGK. If you are foreign national and arrived in the country and wants to exchange foreign currency (mainly US Dollar) for Kina, you can. Since, PNG is a small economy and entry into and out of the country is through Jacksons International airport in Port Moresby, the Bank of PNG has authorized only a few companies to trade currency apart from the three commercial banks.

Local Banks.
The three local banks Westpac Bank, Kina Bank, and Bank South Pacific branches are the most common places to do currency exchanges. Bank of South Pacific (BSP) has a currency exchange counter inside the International Terminal check-in area at the Jacksons International Airport.
The banks also have a good ATM network and ATMs are located inside their branches, major shopping centers, hotels, government office buildings and at few fuel station convenient stores. Foreigners can withdraw in local currency using their international debit or credit cards.
Get cash at checkouts in major supermarkets.
You can also ask for cash out at checkouts in almost all supermarkets and fuel station convenient stores. At the checkout once you want to pay for the goods with your bank card, ask for the cash you need so that amount can be billed together and get the cash as change.
Currencies accepted at currency exchangers
Foreign currency accepted by currency exchangers is mainly $US Dollars. BSP currency does accept Australian Dollars and cents. Because, there is limited flights coming into the country, the preferred currency is $US Dollars at the Jacksons International Airport.
