There are only two places where you can launch your Application for Standard PNG Passport in Papua New Guinea. These places are Port Moresby and just recently in the city of Lae in Morobe Province. So here is how you go about getting passport in Port Moresby.
Step 1: Download the PNG Passport Application Form ICA Website.
Go to Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) website: www.ica.gov.pg and download the Application. Direct link to Download the Passport Application is below. Click on it and download the Application.
Download PNG Passport Application Form
All the necessary requirements are there on the first page of the Application.
Step 2: Get the Passport Photo from ChemCare Inside Courts.
Getting a good Passport Size Photo is important. So, don’t go for low quality photo booths at most Asian Stores. One of the most recommended place to get Passport Photos is ChemCare Pharmacy shop inside Courts Furniture store, close to SP Beer Brewery at Gordons. See the map below. Cost is less then K40.00 so, go there and get the photos.
Step 3: Application Certification-Section 13 of the Application
Section 13 of the Application has to be signed by a certified authority like Lawyer, Commission of Commissioner of Oaths and etc. These are mentioned in the application instruction. So, convenient way to get it find a friend who works at a Law Firm. They will provide that service. Ask them if they charge any fees for that or not. Relatives or friend lawyers normally do this for free.
At the time of this post, there is a tired Lawyer who stays at the ICA Office where passports are launched which is Koitachi Haus Gordons (See Map below). His service fee is K10.00/Application. Prepared all your applications and bring there and he will sign and stamp Section 13 of the Application.
Whichever way, Section 13 has to compiled. Also make sure that two of the photographs are signed at the back as well.
Step 4: Pay the K100.00 application processing Fee
This is trick and can be frustrating. There are three (3) places to pay the K100.00 processing fee. They are;
- Vulupindi House-Formally it housed the Finance and Treasury but now Dept of Education at Waigani, next to NCDC City Hall Building.
- The Koitachi Haus -Gordons Industrial area-few blocks from SP Beer Brewery
- Central Government Office complex-Next to Manasupe Building (Pineapple Building)
Recommend that Vulupindi House service is much more convenient and reliable. Koitachi Haus counter payment is bit unreliable and maybe refer to Vulupindi Haus.
Make sure the names on the receipt are same on the Application Form. Fee is K100.00/Application.
Step5: Launch the Application at ICA Office-KOITACHI Haus-Gordons.
Launching and collection of applications are on specific days. So, check the days for lodging and submit your application.
You will be issued with a receipt with the date for pick up. Normally one week processing time.
Step 6: Passport Pick up
They try to process the Application within one week turn around time but it OK to give extra one week to make to it two weeks. If you go within one week, passport may not be ready. It’s a common occurrence. All the passport printing is done at Government Office Building at ICA Head office and transported back to KOITACHI Haus.
The PNG Standard Passport is valid for Five (5) years so enjoy your travels but keep it safe as well.
